Pete & Pedro Putty – Review

Pete and Pedro Putty | Hair Product Ireland

If you have ever sought out men’s style advice on online, you are most definitely aware of Aaron Marino. His Alpha M alias has become globally renowned for being a go-to hub of guidance for men seeking to improve their grooming game. Mr. Marino, who is based Stateside in Atlanta, has dabbled in many entrepreneurial ventures over his storied lifetime/career. Most of you may be aware of his increasingly popular skincare system Tiege Hanley, which has become the subject of many a jest within various videos’ comments section. But the social influencer, also oversees a reputable range of hair products under the unusually named Pete & Pedro brand. Alpha unsuccessfully sought investment for Pete & Pedro, when he appeared on American TV show Shark Tank for a second time a few years back.

Offering a unique service, Pete & Pedro will in-fact recommend you a product, supposedly based on your own unique style. You can do this for free, by uploading a selfie to their website and disclosing the product which you are currently using. This seemed a little sketchy and is more than likely subject to a mere automated response. But we decided to try it out nonetheless. I was recommended the Putty along with the sea salt spray prestyler. Not having much luck with sea salt sprays in the past, I decided to opt solely for the putty. At €20 for a 57g tub, it is definitely at the higher end of the pricing scale.

Firstly, its packaging is undeniably underwhelming, especially given the price. Not that this is of major relevance, but when you’re paying a premium charge, these things are indeed noticeable. In terms of odour, it smells very pleasant; it is subtle but fresh and zesty. It isn’t overwhelming like Lynx hair products. It is also really easy to apply to the hair. It is definitely best used on dry or towel dried hair. Wet look is and should remain a thing of the past. It is more pliable than the likes of American Crew Fibre but still requires a degree of emulsification into one’s hands before applying. I have found that slightly more robust products are better for ensuring a decent hold whilst maintaining a matte finish. However, products which are almost as dense and hard as stone, should always be avoided. We’re looking at you Dax Wax!

The hold offered by this Putty is fantastic; it keeps hair flawlessly in place without making strands crunchy like an old crouton. It remains touchable along with leaving absolutely no greasy residue. The fact that is easier and quicker to apply than Fibre, I would say Pete & Pedro have a definite edge in terms of the ease of application. Remember, these two are fairly neck and neck when it comes to pricing. This is a near perfect product, as not only does it perform exceptionally well over the course of an entire day, each application requires very little product.

The unfortunate setback of this product is that it may prove slightly more difficult to acquire than those readily available at your nearby supermarket or barbershop. This can and may deter some potential customers within these shores. For that reason alone, Pete & Pedro Putty isn’t quite the Rolls-Royce of the hair world, but nobody ever complained about owning a Lambo!

Pete & Pedro Putty is a 9.75/10.
